Merry Christmas From Abbey Road Dental!
7 fun smile facts for the festive season.
This year has been fantastic for Abbey Road Dental, with lots of incredible patients coming through our doors and leaving with a smile on their face.
We’re feeling so grateful to have many loyal patients coming to us for checkups, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry and more. So to say thanks, we wanted to pop a little smile on your face and sprinkle our own bit of Christmas cheer with these 7 fun smile ‘facts’. We can’t vouch for their accuracy 100% but some of them sound very plausible! See what you think….
1. Smiling Can Be Contagious
Various different studies have apparently shown that if a person smiles, something in our brains tells us to smile too! So perhaps, if you can force a grin over that cheesy Christmas cracker joke, the whole family will be grinning along with you.
2. Smiling Boosts Your Immune System
Smiling properly where your eyes squint causes the cortisol in your body to reduce, boosting your immune system. So perhaps a little extra smiling this season could stop any winter illnesses getting in and ruining the festivities!
3. You’ve Smiled Since Before You Were Born
Smiling is the first expression we learn and we actually start smiling in the womb. So if you ever forget how to smile when you’re opening a present you never wanted, or whilst listening to Uncle Terry’s post Christmas dinner snoring, think back to those very early moments in your life and you’ll soon harness those skills once again.
4. Forcing A Smile Makes You Happy
The chances are, if you go into a festive scenario you’re less than happy about with a fake smile, then you may actually end up feeling happy. Smiling releases happier feelings in the body and actually adjusts your mood for the better. Well apparently!
5. Smiling Makes You Look Better
Want your Christmas selfies to look amazing? Smile on them! Smiling is known to make us look more attractive and appealing to those looking at our faces. We can all stand by this one!
6. Smiling Lowers Blood Pressure
Smiling is known to lower blood pressure, so if you do find yourself getting a bit too frustrated at the amount of people in the kitchen whilst you’re trying to cook Christmas dinner, try smiling to quickly calm down.
7. It Is Easier To Smile Than To Frown
There’s no excuse! Say ‘brussel sprouts’ for the annual family photo and get your grin on, then you can save the extra energy for something important, like polishing off another turkey sandwich!
