5 Bad Oral Health Habits….
And How To Replace Them For A Nicer Smile!
The New Year is nearly here, and what better opportunity to shed all of the unwanted emotions, problems and habits of 2017 before setting a new direction for 2018.
We’re not here to tell you to start a new exercise habit or hobby, because we’re focused on oral health here at our NW8 clinic. Instead, we want to take you through some common, bad oral health habits and suggest good oral health habits to replace them with, ready for a fresh, healthy smile that lasts the whole year ahead:
Bad Habit 1
Avoiding checkups at Abbey Road Dental because of prioritising other commitments, or assuming because there is no mouth pain or visible issues that everything is OK.
Replace With….
Sticking to checkups every six months or as often as your dentist advises. Those appointments help to spot any issues early so treatment is as quick and low cost as possible. Checkups also ensure dentists can check for more serious oral health issues like oral cancer which is much more treatable if it is found early.
Bad Habit 2
Skipping oral hygiene daily care like brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes.
Replace With…
Setting your ‘phone on a timer for two minutes in the morning and at night to help get those teeth clean. If you need more inspiration to clean that daily plaque bacteria off your teeth, why not invest in a snazzy electric toothbrush?
Bad Habit 3
Drinking lots of coffee and red wine, leaving the teeth stained.
Replace With….
Drinking less products that stain the teeth, and replacing them with water and herbal teas. If you do really want to drink tea, coffee and red wine, moderate their intake or if you are really committed, consider drinking them through a straw to limit the fluids contact with the teeth. Alternatively, there is always teeth whitening at Abbey Road Dental which lifts heavier staining and yellowing from the teeth.
Bad Habit 4
Coping with dental issues like ill-fitting dentures, toothache, bleeding gums or missing teeth.
Replace With…
Recognising that nobody has to suffer because of dental issues. Restorative, general and cosmetic dentistry and special skills and techniques used by staff to ensure patients feel at ease and entirely comfortable at the dentist, mean you can have a comfortable, beautiful smile again. Don’t suffer with your oral health for any reason, we’re here to help you!
Bad Habit 5
Smoking.
Replace With…
Not smoking! Smoking is so bad for your oral health. It enhances your risk of so many health issues all over the body, and it has a negative effect on how your teeth look. There is nothing good about this habit so, if you can do anything for your teeth, and overall health in the New Year, quitting smoking is a fantastic goal to try and hit.
With motivation, and the support from your Abbey Road dental team, we’re sure you can achieve your oral health goals this year. Need more information, or want to book in for a checkup? Please call our friendly team on 02076241603 and we will be more than happy to help.
