Implant Supported Bridges & Dentures At Abbey Road Dental
Comfortable and stable replacement teeth.
Here at Abbey Road Dental in St John’s Wood we provide a wide range of innovative, modern, professional treatments for our patients.
One of the treatments we are particularly proud to offer is dental implants, which have many different applications and uses, and are a real triumph of dental technology.
What Are Implants?
Implants are artificial tooth roots that are attached to your jaw surgically. They can be single or multiple and hold a tooth, a bridge or a set of dentures in place. Implants are permanent and even where the jawbone has degraded, restorative procedures can be done to create a suitable foundation for implant placement to proceed.
Bridges
At your local NW8 dentists we also pleased to offer implant supported bridges. A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or several missing teeth and is usually held in the correct place by crowns fixed to the teeth either side of the gap being filled by the bridge. A traditional bridge requires that the teeth either side of the gap have to be filed down to support the bridge, which is necessary, but also not ideal because healthy teeth are adjusted permanently. With implant supported bridges, this does not need to happen which is very beneficial for the patient.
We can replace several missing teeth with an implant supported bridge, instead of relying on the natural healthy teeth adjacent to the gap. It really is preferable to avoid damaging healthy teeth at all, which is why an implant supported bridge is a very good option. It provides a strong, solid base for permanent teeth without the natural teeth being damaged at all.
Dentures
Implant supported dentures only require a few small implants which act as firm anchors and enable dentures to be clipped in place. We would look to place around 2-3 implants on each jaw for maximum denture stability, allowing part of full dentures to be fixed. This helps you chew better, it helps your bones and gum retain their current form (rather than naturally shrinking) and of course, it also helps avoid your dentures moving around in your mouth.
The dentures remain removable for added flexible cleaning and maintenance which is a benefit. Also, when they are supported by the implants, you don’t have the top of your mouth covered which means your speech isn’t affected, you can taste your food more and you can enjoy better comfort and security in the knowledge that your dentures shouldn’t slip unexpectedly.
Am I Suitable?
We would need you to come in for a consultation and thorough examination to determine whether or not you are suitable for dental implants. Most people are, but if you are not suitable, we can discuss alternative treatment options with you.
